Picture yourself atop golden cliffs, sculpted by time, gazing out at the deep blue of the Atlantic. This is the stage for the Seven Hanging Valleys, a route distinguished as Europe's best hiking trail. For millions of years, Nature has worked to create this magical stretch of coast, which connects the famous Praia da Marinha to Vale Centeanes, revealing iconic sea caves, such as the Benagil Cave (Algar de Benagil) from above, and unique biodiversity.

Until now, this beauty demanded a certain adventurous spirit, long hikes, and detailed planning. We introduce the new way to explore the Seven Hanging Valleys: an experience marked by comfort and exclusivity. This is not just a hike; it's a premium exploration journey. Forget the worries about logistics: if you wish, you can add a private door-to-door transfer, booked separately.

Led by exclusive specialist guides who unveil the unique history, fauna, flora and geology of the route, this private experience is fully customised to your pace. Enjoy a comfortable tour along the cliffs with premium service. Ideal for groups up to 7 people.

The route

The Seven Hanging Valleys Trail links Praia da Marinha to Vale Centeanes, along golden cliffs suspended above the Atlantic. It is regularly named among Europe's best hiking routes, and it is easy to see why from the first viewpoint.

You walk it with a guide, in around 3h30. There are climbs and descents, steps cut into the rock and sections along the cliff edge — it is not a flat walk, but it does not require athlete-level fitness either.

What you see along the way

Along the route you see the sea caves that exist only on this coast — including the Algar de Benagil, which from the top of the cliff reveals itself in a way boat visitors never see: the dome from above.

Your guide is local and explains the geology, how the cliffs formed and the history of the area. Hidden beaches, natural arches and viewpoints are part of the path, not detours.

How it works

The trail starts at Praia da Marinha and ends at Vale Centeanes; afterwards we take you back to the trailhead. If you prefer, you can book a private door-to-door transfer separately — it is optional, at a tailored fee, and arranged with us before you book.

Groups are small (maximum 7 people) and the guide is a local native who specialises in this route and speaks Portuguese, English, French and Spanish.

Schedule

About 6 km, with 190 minutes of walking (3h10, break included). With the optional door-to-door transfer, the full experience takes about 5 hours.

  • 09:00 — Walk to dazzling viewpoints at Praia da Marinha, with a stop at the First Valley for the first explanations about the sinkholes
  • 09:30 — Phase 1: golden beaches and rock formations. Start of the hike at Praia da Marinha, with stops to see and photograph natural arches and sinkholes (algares — vertical pits), and the view from the top of the Algar de Benagil
  • 11:00 — Hydration break at a panoramic viewpoint (ideally near Praia do Carvalho)
  • 11:10 — Phase 2: the iconic caves. The guide explains the geology of the sea caves and the history of the region; the walk ends at Vale Centeanes
  • 12:30 — Trail farewell at the beach bar at Praia do Vale de Centeanes, then transport back to the start point

Ages and level

The experience is for ages 12 to 80. What matters is being able to walk for a few hours, with stops, on uneven ground close to the cliff edge. No technical hiking experience is needed.
